Located in the green, rolling hills of northeast Texas, about 60 miles northeast of Dallas, the city of Bonham combines a colorful past with a forward-looking vision of the future.
Red River Regional Hospital is a Critical Access Hospital, and a Joint Commission accredited acute care facility, providing a comprehensive range of medical services, including Inpatient, Outpatient, Emergency and Home Health Services. Diagnostic Imaging services include Mammography, Echo/Vascular, CT, Nuclear Medicine, MRI, Ultrasound and Bone Density. Cardio-Pulmonary services include EEG/ EKG Lab, Respiratory Care, Pulmonary Function Lab, Cardiac Stress Lab, Cardiac Rehab, Pulmonary Rehab and Smoking Cessation. The hospital also provides Physical/ Occupational/Speech Therapy, Pharmaceutical Services, Laboratory Services, Nutrition Services and Case Manage-ment. Supported by a Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Day Surgery and GI Lab, the surgery specialists on staff include General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Podiatry, Gastroenterology, Urology, and Gynecology.
Bonham is conveniently located just an hour’s drive from the Dallas/Fort Worth area, which offers abundant opportunities for shopping, entertainment, cultural events and professional sports.
Historic downtown Bonham features buildings and historical markers celebrating nearly two centuries as a Texas town. As part of the Main Street Project, the downtown area features landscaping and vintage lampposts reminiscent of its Victorian roots.
The local school district has five campuses located throughout the city and the State of Texas Education Agency recognized the High School as an “Exemplary Campus.” The Bonham Public Library has state-of-the-art equipment, with special programs for children throughout the year and an active summer reading program. The Creative Arts Center encourages and teaches visual and performing arts, providing both children and adults with the opportunity to learn many different artistic forms, such as watercolor, pottery, quilting and weaving, just to name a few.
Bonham is the home of Sam Rayburn, the longest-serving Speaker of the House of representatives. The Sam Rayburn Library and Museum are open to the public.
Northeast Texas is a paradise for lovers of the Great Outdoors. The avid golfer can play Legacy Ridge, a new eighteen-hole course, or the nine-hole golf course at the Bonham Country Club. For the fishing or water sports enthusiast, there’s Bonham State Park. This 261-acre park features rolling prairies, woodlands, and a 65-acre lake where anglers catch largemouth bass, channel catfish, and bluegill sunfish. Boating, camping, hiking, picnicking and mountain biking are other popular outdoor activities at the park. Bonham Lake, located three miles northeast of the city, has camping, fishing, swimming, boating, a par-three golf course, driving range, miniature golf, pavilion rental and skiing on a 1,282-acre lake. Also, there’s Fort Inglish Village, which features a replica of the first building built in Bonham, a blacksmith shop, schoolhouse/church, general store and living history
demonstrations.
